U.S. defence bill blocks transfer of F-35 advanced jets to Turkey

F-35 transfers to Turkey would be barred temporarily under a compromise defence policy measure agreed to on Monday.

The move, reflecting the tensions in U.S.-Turkish relations, is part of a $717 billion defence policy bill (H.R. 5515) for fiscal 2019 crafted by congressional negotiators that awaits final approval in the House and

Defence Secretary Jim Mattis had warned Congress against cutting off transfers of the F-35, saying an F-35 cut-off would risk triggering an international “supply chain disruption” that would drive up costs and delay deliveries of the fighter.

US President Donald Trump will make final decision. If he approves the bill, transfer of F-35 advanced jets to Turkey will be barred temporarily.
