According to a 17 January statement of Submarine Force Commander of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), the country will establish three permanent submarine exercise areas within Malaysian territorial waters in the South China Sea. The establishment of Malaysia Submarine Exercise Area (MSEA) 1, 2, and 3 aims to enhance submarine operating safety in the region.
