KC-46, which first delivery held last days, still has problems. US Air Force is going to re-design the aircraft's boom system over the problems encountered when refuelling light aircraft.

In the tests carried out, the problem of separation was detected in the refuelling boom used in KC-46 Pegasus platforms. A number of problems were found in the use of refuelling booms using on platforms such as the A-10 Thunderbolt II, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-15 Eagle, which are lighter aircraft than the larger cargo aircraft and bombers in the US inventory. Defects in the actuators were shown as the cause of the problem. The US Air Force has decided to improve the boom design for the situation in question, which puts flight safety at risk during refuelling.
