Poland has received a new batch of K2 tanks under a $6.5 billion agreement signed with Hyundai Rotem. The 28 tanks delivered were assigned to the 9th Armored Cavalry Brigade, part of the 16th Mechanized Division.
According to a statement from Poland’s General Staff (Dowództwo Generalne), the delivery marks only the first portion of K2 tanks arriving in the country. Subsequent batches will include K2PL tanks, part of which will be built using Polish-made components.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the delivery falls under the K2 and K2PL tank contract signed on August 1, 2025. According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the agreement calls for a total of 116 K2GF tanks to be delivered between 2026 and 2027, followed by 64 K2PL tanks between 2028 and 2030.
K2 Tanks Reach the 9th Armored Cavalry Brigade
The new K2 tanks are boosting the combat capacity of the 9th Armored Cavalry Brigade while reinforcing the 16th Mechanized Division to which it belongs. Poland’s General Staff described the 16th Mechanized Division as a unit representing the strength and security of the northeastern region. The Land Forces the division falls under have been undergoing significant modernization since the war in Ukraine.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said in his statement that the delivery boosts Poland’s production capacity and represents a consistent strengthening of the country’s security. The General Staff, in its own statement, said the delivery marks a step in the modernization of the Polish Armed Forces and is tied to efforts to expand the production capacity of Poland’s defense industry.
