Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence announced that Vilkas (“Wolf” in Lithuanian) infantry fighting vehicles are under to extensive testing in German military training areas. The official statement from ARTEC, the manufacturer of the Vilkas, reported that the first two prototypes procured by Lithuania are testing. After the tests, vehicles will go back to Lithuania and the mass production phase will be started after the data gained from the tests are analyzed. Lithuania ordered 88 Vilkas with an agreement of 386 million Euros. The Lithuanian Armed Forces will also provide the necessary technical support, training and htechnical support with the vehicles.
The 8×8 Vilkas infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), developed on GTK Boxer for Lithuanian needs, was equipped with a 30 mm MK44 cannon integrated with the Israel-based Elbit production turret and the Spike LR missile. Lithuania is scheduled to take delivery of the first Vilkas in 2019.
