Russia Placed First Tu-160M2 Order

Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has placed an order to United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) for 10 Tu-160M2 strategic bombers in a contract worth $2,7 billion. The contract, announced on 25 January, marks the first Tu-160M2 acquisition. Serial deliveries of the new bomber are slated to begin in 2023, with the first aircraft expected to be handed over to the Russian Air Force by the end of this year.

Russia plans to induct at least 50 Tu-160M2s. The Tu-160M2 is an upgraded variant of the Cold War-era Soviet Tu-160 heavy strategic bomber introduced into service in 1987.
