Philippine Air Force (PAF) received four A-29B Super Tucano light attack aircraft on 19 September 2020 at Clark Air Base, Pampanga province. The PAF will receive two more aircraft. Brazilian aviation company Embraer produced the aircraft. The PAF is reported to have an option to order 18 more A-29B Super Tucano aircraft. The aircraft will be assigned with the PAF's 15th Strike Wing.
Embraer's pilots flew from Brazil and transit stops were made in Cape Verde, Canary Islands, Portugal, Malta, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, India, Bangladesh, Thailand and Vietnam.
The aircraft was supposed to be delivered in two batches in late 2019 but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The aircraft was ordered by the Philippine Department of National Defence (DND) in 2017 for Close Air Support Aircraft Project.
Embraer's A-29B Super Tucano was in competition with Beechcraft's AT-6C Wolverine, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) KA-1 Woongbi, and the Aero Vodochody L-159 ALCA.
