More Powerful Abrams are Coming

The US Army has taken action to strengthen its armoured units. The US, which recently signed an agreement to raise some tanks to M1A2 SEPv3 configuration, decided to modernize the additional tank.

In line with the Land Forces requirement, the US signed an additional modernization agreement with General Dynamics Land Systems cost of USD  714 million. In this context, 174 M1A1 Abrams will be upgraded to M1A2 SEPv3 configuration. Washington administration signed an agreement for the modernization of 274 tanks in 2018.

Within the scope of SEPv3, IFLIR (Improved Forward-Looking Infrared / Enhanced FLIR) will be integrated. The imagers used in the CROWS system will be improved with the better and provide 340% wider field of view. The CREW Duke V3 electronic countermeasure will be used to increase the tank's survivability.
