The United States and the United Kingdom (UK) signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation in the scope of the P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) on 25 January. UK's Defence Minister Harriett Baldwin and US Deputy Secretary of Defence Bob Work signed the agreement. Two countries will share their logistics and support bases, especially in Europe and will work in partnership to increase operational effectiveness in the North Atlantic region. According to the agreement, the UK will receive the first Poseidon P-8A aircraft in 2019. UK has ordered nine Boeing P-8A Poseidon MPAs to deploy at Royal Air Force (RAF) Lossiemouth Air Base in Scotland. Poseidon P-8A aircraft is expected to enhance surveillance capacity of the UK Forces, including underwater and surface platforms detection, search and rescue, intelligence.
