Lockheed Martin has delivered the second set of AN/SPY-7(V)1 radar antennas for Japan’s Aegis-equipped ships (ASEV). The set, consisting of four radar antennas, was provided through a direct commercial sale agreement via Mitsubishi Corporation. According to details reported by the UK Defence Journal, the radar system was tested at Lockheed Martin’s Moorestown facility in the U.S. before delivery and will be retained in the U.S. throughout 2025 for system integration prior to final shipment.
Under the ASEV program conducted by the Japanese Ministry of Defense, two warships equipped with these radars are scheduled to enter service in fiscal years 2027 and 2028. Featuring solid-state sensor technology, the SPY-7 has also been selected for Canada’s River-class destroyers and Spain’s F-110 frigates. A land-based version of the radar system has been deployed by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency in Guam.
