Patria’s TREMOS mortar system is set to enter serial production for the Finnish Defence Forces. The agreement signed between Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces covers more than 100 systems, with options for hundreds more; deliveries will begin this year and run through 2028.
Developed in close cooperation with the Finnish Army and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, the system boosts the mobility and operational effectiveness of heavy mortars. Following the delivery of a pre-series batch to the Finnish Army in 2025, Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces agreed on serial procurement of the system.
Mikko Leino, Senior Vice President of Patria’s Defence and Weapon Systems business unit, said the system is a unique mortar concept tailored to the mobility requirements of modern defence operations. Leino noted that they expect strong international market potential for the system and that cooperation with the Finnish Defence Forces throughout the development process has gone smoothly. According to Leino, Finland being the launch customer represents a valuable milestone for the company’s weapon systems business and lays a solid foundation for future growth.
How Does the Patria TREMOS Mortar System Work?
The Patria TREMOS mortar system was designed as a mobile version of the traditional mortar system. Thanks to its advanced recoil technology, it can be integrated onto a wide range of vehicle platforms, which enhances mobility, firepower and accuracy. The system can be fitted with barrels and breeches already in service, a feature that allows the use of existing ammunition and ballistic tables, simplifying training, operations and logistics.
Developed and produced in Finland, the Patria TREMOS mortar system contributes to the country’s supply security and helps ensure defence capabilities remain continuously available in Finland. Serial production will take place at Patria’s facilities in Finland using a network that includes dozens of suppliers. The agreement’s employment impact is expected to be around 130 person-years.
