The L3Harris Peru F-16 deal has been finalized, with the Peruvian government selecting L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) to provide the electronic warfare backbone for its F-16 Block 70 fighter fleet. The company’s Viper Shield system gives pilots the ability to actively counter radar, missile and electronic threats encountered in flight.
The system functions as a digital shield surrounding the aircraft. Under this L3Harris Peru F-16 program, the new infrastructure is expected to strengthen the offensive and defensive capabilities of the country’s incoming Block 70 fleet. The system also supports allied interoperability, equipping Peru with the same electronic warfare hardware used by other F-16 Block 70 operators.
L3Harris Ramping Up 233-System Production for Peru’s F-16 Fleet
Christopher Aebli, President of Communications & Spectrum Dominance at L3Harris, said the company is focused on delivering Peru a low-risk solution through its active production line, flight test program and supply chain. Aebli noted that Viper Shield has now been selected by eight nations, including Peru, and that the program is ramping toward full-rate production of 233 systems. The system recently completed two-ship flight testing with F-16C and F-16D aircraft at Edwards Air Force Base in the U.S.

Viper Shield, the electronic warfare system selected for Peru’s F-16 Block 70 fleet, was developed by L3Harris in partnership with Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force. Peru signed the technical agreements for 24 F-16 Block 70 jets built by Lockheed Martin in April 2026, and the Viper Shield selection marks the next step in equipping that fleet. The system offers several installation options: direct integration into Block 70/72 aircraft, a retrofit version for earlier F-16 blocks, and an external pod configuration. Its software-defined architecture allows Viper Shield’s capabilities for Peru’s F-16 fleet to be upgraded and adapted as the threat environment evolves.
