he Javelin missile joint production line is expanding to India, as Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) — a partnership between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.
Under the agreement, the parties will assess the possibility of establishing a final assembly and integration facility for the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) in the country, marking a key step toward Javelin AUR assembly in India.
The industrial MoU goes beyond simply setting up a facility; the parties will also explore building component manufacturing capacity in India as part of this broader Javelin missile manufacturing partnership. The agreement is expected to support the future production line of the Javelin system, offer new opportunities for India’s defense industry, and contribute to stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
TASL’s Statement on the Javelin Missile Joint Production
Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Advanced Systems Limited, described the agreement as a new phase in the company’s ongoing collaboration with Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. According to Singh, the initiative brings assembly expertise and knowledge transfer to India’s defense industry while also reinforcing the country’s localization goals, laying the groundwork for expanded Javelin missile production in India. Singh added that assembling the Javelin All Up Round in India would boost operational readiness and ensure the Indian Armed Forces have timely access to a proven, combat-ready system.
TASL’s Other Partnerships in India’s Defence Industry
The Javelin missile joint production initiative is just one of TASL’s defense industry projects in India, following a series of recent agreements including the Tata Lockheed Raytheon Javelin deal. The company, together with Bharat Forge Limited, is a manufacturer of the Advanced Armoured Platform (AAP) systems developed by DRDO — STANAG Level 5-protected, amphibious-capable platforms designed for Infantry Combat Vehicle and Armoured Personnel Carrier roles. Additionally, Dassault Aviation is deepening its partnership with TASL as part of India’s order for 114 Rafale aircraft; the facility under construction in Hyderabad will have the capacity to produce 24 Rafale aircraft fuselages per year.
