The Brazilian Army signed the final contract for the first batch acquisition of the Centauro II (8×8) wheeled armored combat vehicle in a ceremony held at Army Headquarters in Brasília. The contract, part of the Strategic Armored Forces Program, calls for a total of 98 vehicles to be added to the inventory.
Part of the vehicles will be assembled in Brazil, and the project also includes technology transfer. Known within the Army as “Caça-Tanques” (Tank Hunter), the Centauro II will gradually replace the existing Cascavel armored vehicle fleet.
Centauro II’s Technical Specifications and Testing Process

The Centauro II is equipped with a 120 mm high-pressure cannon capable of engaging targets with precision at ranges of up to 5 kilometers. The vehicle uses a digital fire-control system featuring thermal cameras, a laser rangefinder and advanced stabilization. With its 8×8 drive system, the vehicle can reach speeds of up to 105 km/h and has a range of 800 kilometers.

The Centauro II passed through a five-phase evaluation process conducted in Brazil and Italy, during which more than 600 operational attributes were checked.
