Japan, took action in electronic warfare area after its largest rival China in their region. Tokyo administration, which has recently gone through radical changes in the military and has allocated significant budgets for investments, will increase its electronic warfare capabilities.

According to Japanese media, there are different options in front of the Japanese Self-Defence Forces in this area.

The first is the development of the electronic warfare model (EW) of the C-2 transport aircraft. If this plan is realized, the first platform adapted for this task is expected to be put into service in 2027. According to another report published, the other option is the procurement of E/A-18G Growler aircraft, EW model of F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft. Japan's latest option is the adoption of P-1 maritime patrol aircraft for EW missions. There is no final decision in this area. The fact that two of the platforms are airplanes produced by local facilities can be an advantage in the selection phase.
