The Egyptian Air Force has taken delivery of its first CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopter. The helicopter made its public debut at the El Alamein International Aviation and Space Expo, alongside multirole fighter jets and support aircraft.
The unveiling took place as part of the expo held at El Alamein International Airport. Boeing’s ties with the Egyptian military date back to 1979, when the Egyptian Air Force purchased the F-4 Phantom II. Since then, Egypt has added 43 AH-64D Apache attack helicopters and 18 CH-47D Chinook heavy-lift helicopters to its inventory; with the new CH-47F, the fleet continues to grow.
Dr. Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing Global and senior vice president of the company, said Egypt is one of the region’s leading defence and security partners, noting that their relationship with the Egyptian Armed Forces spans decades and that they work to ensure personnel can protect their country, respond to disasters and return home safely.
The company also announced that it has invested more than $3 million in community programmes in Egypt over the past decade, with nearly 9,800 people taking part in programmes focused on STEM education, employability, entrepreneurship and sustainability over the past five years.
