Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has codified the domestically produced Dovbush T40 unmanned aircraft system, formally clearing it for use by the Armed Forces. This multifunctional, strategic-level system is designed to conduct deep reconnaissance, fire adjustment, and precision strikes against targets located far from the line of contact.

The Dovbush T40 UAS has a wingspan of nearly 5 meters and can remain airborne for more than 24 hours. The T40’s operational range is sufficient to strike targets beyond the Urals and in Russia’s Siberia region.

Capabilities Confirmed During Testing

The Dovbush T40 unmanned aircraft confirmed its stated tactical and technical characteristics during testing. The system features an ultra-low radar signature, a high-performance engine with an electronic fuel injection system, and a range of innovative technical solutions. Target engagement is possible through two options: one-way (kamikaze) strike missions or munition drops. The T40 also demonstrates strong resistance to electronic warfare threats.

From the T20 to the T40

The Ukrainian company that manufactures the Dovbush T40 has long been active in unmanned aircraft production. The company’s Dovbush T20 and Kotyhoroshko systems have been operating on the battlefield since 2022 and rank among the most effective systems in use. The Dovbush T20 proved to be a solid solution for medium-range reconnaissance, real-time artillery fire adjustment, and precision strikes. Drawing on feedback from the field, the system evolved into the Dovbush T40, a longer-range and more powerful strike platform.

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has codified and authorized a total of 413 unmanned aircraft systems for use by the Armed Forces. The Dovbush T40 is among them. Nearly all of the codified systems are Ukrainian-made. This is one of several similar codification efforts the country has carried out, including the recent clearance of the Firefly precision munition for mass production.
