Defence Industry Presidency (Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı /SSB) announced from its official twitter account that ASELSAN provides protection to F-16 fighter plane. ASELSAN’s electronic warfare system will protect the aircraft against anti-aircraft missiles and it is in use at 21 aircraft. SSB's announcement is as follows; “The tests for SPEWS-II Electronic Warfare (EH) Self-Protection System developed by ASELSAN have been successfully completed in order to protect our F-16 aircraft against missile threats. The system has already been installed on 21 plane.

The EW self-protection suite (SPEWS-II) is an advanced, internally mounted self-protection system specifically designed for F-16 Block 50-C aircraft.

System is consisted of an integrated Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) Suite against missile threats, providing pilots with situational awareness and deceptive RF jamming. The AN/ALQ-178 (V) 5+ provides intelligent control of chaff/ flare dispenser systems for enhanced and coordinated ECM response.
