February 2, 2018$2,4 Billion OPV Contract to Lürssen
Australian Department of Defence has awarded a contract to German shipbuilder Lürssen for 12 offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The contract announced on 31 January that will cover the design and construction of the 12 vessels is worth at least $2,4 billion.
The first two OPVs will be built at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia starting this year and 10 will be constructed at the Henderson Maritime Precinct in Western Australia from 2020.
