August 30, 2020Taiwan Increases the Number of IFVs in Inventory
Taiwan is increasing the number of CM-34 Clouded Leopard armoured infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) in its inventory. According to the Ministry of Defence, 21 more CM-34 8×8 IFV will be procure for the Taiwan Armed Forces.
The CM-34, developed by Taiwan with local sources and has an indigenous rate of about 88%, is equipped with the Orbital ATK 30mm Mk44 Bushmaster II. The platform's engine, MK44 cannon and transmission are supplied overseas.
Previously, Taiwan ordered 284 CM-34 Clouded Leopards. Mass production of vehicles has begun in 2019; So far, 32 platforms, six of which have entered service, have been handed over to the armed forces.
Deliveries will be completed by 2030, the Ministry of Defence said.
