Hsu Szu-chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Taiwan responsible for policy, visited the U.S. state of South Carolina on March 16 to inspect the production status of the F-16 Block 70 fighter jets procured for the Taiwan Air Force. The visit also addressed the contributions of the Taiwan F-16 Block 70 project to national defense. During the inspection, the aircraft production schedule and technical processes were reviewed.
Two-Shift Operation on the Production Line
At Lockheed Martin facilities, it was reported that hundreds of personnel have been assigned to the program. Additionally, the production line is currently operating at full scale with a two-shift system. The manufacturing process of this new variant of Taiwan’s F-16 Block 70 aircraft is progressing in accordance with the highest technical standards.
High Precision in Software and System Integration
Due to Taiwan-specific configurations, the software and system integration of the aircraft are being carried out with great precision. Continuous flight testing and meticulous calibration processes are underway to ensure full compatibility of the complex wiring, avionics systems, and software components of the F-16 Block 70 platform. Technical feedback obtained during this process is immediately transmitted to the production line without delay. Therefore, instant adjustments can be made. This dynamic control mechanism ensures the quality and flight safety of Taiwan’s F-16 Block 70 aircraft. At the same time, it aims to meet the highest standards required for Taiwan’s defense needs.
Acceptance Flights and Delivery Schedule
Aircraft that have completed assembly on the production line and passed Lockheed Martin’s acceptance flight tests will undergo final acceptance flights conducted by the U.S. government. Following this critical process, deliveries of Taiwan’s F-16 Block 70 aircraft are planned to begin later this year.
