Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated on March 30 that Russia has changed its tactics in its mass attacks against Ukraine. Recently, it has also been noted that the use of fake missiles in Shahed drones has increased in these attacks. Syrskyi said that Ukrainian defense forces are developing updated countermeasures against these new methods. In addition, experts emphasize that Ukraine has responded quickly to the fake missile tactic used in Shahed drones.
According to a report by The New Voice of Ukraine, experts state that as part of Russia’s new strategies, fake missiles are being placed in Shahed-type kamikaze drones. These dummy munitions are intended to mislead Ukrainian air defenses, occupy radar systems, and distract defense units. In this context, the fake missile tactic used in Shahed drones also puts pressure on radar systems.

Ukrainian Helicopters’ UAV Countermeasures
According to Syrskyi, since the beginning of March, Ukrainian helicopters have destroyed a total of 379 enemy attack drones. Experts assess that, in addition to the use of fake munitions, Russia aims to deceive Ukrainian air defense systems and increase ammunition expenditure with this method. The use of fake missiles in Shahed drones significantly affects defense units.

Operational Risks and Security Warnings
In light of information that Russian drones can release munitions during flight, it is emphasized that approaching such drones is extremely dangerous. While Russia continues to change how it uses attack drones to bypass Ukrainian air defenses, Ukraine is also developing new defense methods in response. As a result, Ukrainian defense teams are taking new measures every day against the strategy of using fake missiles in Shahed drones.
