Rheinmetall and Destinus aim to strengthen Europe’s next-generation missile and rocket production capacity through mass production with their joint venture, “Rheinmetall Destinus Strike Systems.” This venture is set to become operational in 2026.
German-based technology giant Rheinmetall and Destinus, an innovative player in the Dutch defense industry, are entering into a strategic partnership. In fact, this collaboration will reshape Europe’s defense capabilities. The new joint venture, named Rheinmetall Destinus Strike Systems and planned to begin operations in the second half of 2026, will focus on the development and mass production of advanced missile systems. These systems are one of the most critical needs of the modern battlefield. The company’s headquarters will be located in Unterlüß, a defense industry hub in the German state of Lower Saxony. Rheinmetall will hold a majority stake of 51%. Meanwhile, Destinus will participate as a technology partner with a 49% share.
Combining Technology and Mass Production Power
Within the scope of this partnership, the production of high-precision munitions—particularly cruise missiles and ballistic rocket artillery systems—is targeted. According to the cooperation model, Destinus will take responsibility for developing core systems and technological components at its centers across Europe. At the same time, Rheinmetall will leverage its industrial strength. It will carry out large-scale mass production of these systems at its facilities in Germany. This structure aims to enable much faster integration of R&D outputs into military inventories. Furthermore, it also addresses bottlenecks in production capacity.
Europe’s Defense Industrial Base is Expanding
Statements from industry leaders emphasize that Europe must not only meet demand but also expand its production base. Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger stated that strengthening Europe’s defense industrial foundation is a necessity. Meanwhile, Destinus CEO Mikhail Kokorich highlighted that the main issue is not demand, but production capacity. Focusing on faster, more durable, and mass-producible systems required in modern warfare, this initiative aims to become a strategic munitions production hub. In addition, it seeks to serve NATO and European countries in particular.
