July 29, 2018Patriot Missile Breaks Its Own Distance Record to Defeat Threat Target in Test
In a U.S. Army-led test on July 26, at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missile broke its own distant record to take out an air-breathing target simulating a cruise missile or fixed-wing aircraft .
Test demonstrated the Hit-to-Kill capability of the PAC-3 family of missiles, which defends against threats through body-to-body contact. The test also reconfirmed PAC-3 MSE's ability to detect, track and intercept incoming ABTs or missiles. The test was observed by representatives from the U.S. Army and a current Foreign Military Sales PAC-3 MSE customer.
Five countries have signed off to buy MSE missiles — Qatar, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Romania and Poland, the most recent customer. Sweden has said it plans to buy the Patriot system along with MSE missiles, but has not signed deal yet.
