The new heavy unmanned ground vehicle, combining Patria’s modular TRACKX platform with RENK’s HSWL 076 “drive-by-wire” technology, made its debut at Eurosatory 2026. Aiming to minimise crew risk on the battlefield, this strategic cooperation represents a critical technological threshold in the transition of tracked armoured vehicles to autonomous systems.
At a time when unmanned systems have become an operational necessity on modern battlefields, two major names in the defence industry, Patria and RENK Group AG, have joined forces. Built on Patria’s modular TRACKX platform, this heavy unmanned ground vehicle offers high terrain performance and an electronically controlled driving architecture thanks to RENK’s digitalised HSWL 076 transmission system.
“Unmanned Systems on the Battlefield Are a Necessity”
Speaking at the introduction, Panu Routila, President and CEO of Patria, noted that the conflicts in Ukraine have permanently changed modern warfare doctrines. Routila stated: “Today, unmanned systems are no longer a choice but an indispensable necessity. RENK’s digitalised transmission technology and drive-by-wire capability strengthen the operational link between Patria’s manned and unmanned vehicles.”
Alexander Sagel, CEO of RENK Group AG, emphasised the future importance of the project, saying: “The future of ground operations depends on digitally enabled and scalable vehicle architectures. This partnership proves the European defence industry’s capacity to rapidly implement innovative solutions.

NATO-Standard Next-Generation Solutions
Recent global conflicts have increased interest in “optionally manned” systems developed for personnel operating in high-threat areas. NATO countries are prioritising solutions that reduce risk without compromising mobility and protection. This joint concept, exhibited at Eurosatory 2026, aims to be at the centre of operational transformation in the field with its high armoured structure and advanced digital infrastructure.
