July 11, 2018New Zealand Approves Poseidon Procurement
New Zealand has approved four P-8 Poseidon procurement. With the deal amounting to $ 2,346 billion, six P-3K2 Orion maritime patrol aircraft which are in New Zealand's inventory will be replaced. Before the Orion's end of operational life, which planned to end in 2025, the Poseidons are expected to start operations in 2023.
Under the agreement, new aircraft, as well as necessary training systems, structural equipment will be supplied. Defence Minister Ron Mark, who is made a statement about the agreement, said that P-8 Poseidons will provide to New Zealand will continuity in maritime observation, resource protection and humanitarian operations. The statement also said that New Zealand's maritime missions, along with Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, could be carried out more widely.
Developed on Boeing 737-800, the P-8 Poseidon can fulfill long-range submarine warfare, surveillance, intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillancen missions. The platform, which is also very effective in humanitarian aid and search-and-rescue missions, has been developed in the forefront of maximum availability in future battlefield environments.
