Russia prefers new armoured vehicles which have higher protection level. Moscow has announced works on creating a new family of armoured vehicles. Patrul-3A vehicles will be added to the family after the development of the Medved class. The Russian Ministry of Defence said the Medved class and other wheeled armoured vehicles would have the most current and advanced sub-components. It is also known that the platforms will have a composite based armour, will be protected against mine and will be equipped with modern life support units.

The Medved family is considered to be one of the steps Russia has taken in order to modernize its army.
