The new frigate project was inked almost a month after the cabinet approval. Under the agreement, Navantia will build five frigates. The ceremony of the project, whose main contractor is Navantia, was held in the Ministry of Defence of Spain building.

Spain will procure five frigates, with a total cost of € 4,317 billion. It is reported that 80% of the components required for the platform will be purchased from Spanish companies during the process, which will start in Ferrol facilities within a short period of time.

Platforms that will be equipped with advanced technology equipment have an integrated mast system where different task solutions can be deployed. In addition to the hybrid drive system, the ships will be built suitable for the integration of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and directed energy weapons. On the F-110 class ships, which will be equipped with SCOMBA combat system, vertical launcher system and electronic warfare capability will be intehrated. Platofrms will be the first vessel to be developed under the Astillero 4.0 program in Spain, as well as the first Spanish ships to be built with 3D additive manufacturing technology.
