New FREMM in Inventory

France received the new FREMM. Ship christened as FS Bretagne and her pennant number is D655. She is the fifth FREMM to join the French Navy. FS Bretagne was built in a anti-submarine warfare configuration.

FREMMs, the only frigates capable of launching naval cruise missile platforms which designed and developed in Europe, can be configured according to different task types. According to its configuration, the platform, which can reach 6000 tons of displacement, can be managed by a crew of 108. There are two helicopter hangars on the ships that are suitable for NH-90NFH helicopters. Depending on the mission, the MdCN cruise missile can be launched from the platform, and FREMMs can be equipped with different weapons. FREMM class ships have a maximum speed of 27 knots and maximum speed of 6,000 nautical miles.

France will receive three more FREMMs under the 2019-2025 period military program. Normandy, which is to be taken to navy which are serving under the name Aquitaine Class in the French Navy, will be in the anti-submarine warfare configuration in 2019, the last two ships Alsace and Lorraine in the air defence configuration and will be delivered in 2021 and 2022.
