The US Navy plans to re-activate a base frequently used in the Cold War years in Alaska.
The deployment of P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine warfare aircraft to a small air base stationed in Alaska is on the agenda in order to observe the increasing Russian and Chinese activities in the Arctic Ocean. Navy plans re-activate Adak Naval Air Station, which is located in the Adak Island. Navy has stopped deployment in 1997. Although the base's fuel, de-icing and freshwater facilities are in good condition, the reactivation cost is expected to reach US $ 1.3 billion.
After the Cold War, the US began to reopen the bases it had closed before due to increasing Russian submarine activity. Millions of dollars were transferred to the works carried out in order to ensure the necessary deployments to follow the activities.
