The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) has accepted Ukraine as an Enhanced Opportunities Partner. It is aimed to maintain cooperation between the allied countries and its partners who contribute to NATO-led operations and missions.

As a partner of the organisation, Ukraine has sent troops to allied operations and NATO-led exercises.

As a Partner of Enhanced Opportunities, Ukraine will be able to take advantage of privileges such as special exercises and information sharing to the organization. NATO, which has a total of six opportunity partners with Ukraine, Australia, Finland, Georgia, Jordan and Sweden, is engaged in a mutually interest-based relationship with these countries.

In October last year, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that Ukraine would join NATO. “All allies have decided that Ukraine should become a member of NATO. Montenegro joined NATO two years ago. North Macedonia will join NATO in a few months. We've seen this before, after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Poland, Baltic countries. No one could have imagined that they would be members of NATO.”

North Macedonia, which Stoltenberg mentioned, officially became a NATO country in March 2020.
