Mk41 VLS Procurement for Turkish Navy

Vertical Launching System (VLS) provides important advantages in the intelligence due to the inability of detection carried ammunition from outside, high rate of fire and flexibility.

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has signed a new agreement with BAE Systems worths USD 42.8 million.In this context, Mk 13 Mod 0; Mk 21 Mod 1, Mod 2, Mod 3 and Mk 29 Mode 0 canister production in addition to the Mk 13 Mod 0 renew. The contract, includes the US Navy as well as Japan, Australia, Norway, Netherlands and Turkey within FMS. The share of the Turkish Navy announced as 3%.

President of Defence Industries Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir stated that Mk 41 VLS will be integrated to the Istanbul Class frigates, which will be built within the MilGem Project in the joint publication, which C4Defence also attended last week, and signaled that domestic launchers could be used in the next ships after the first platform.

The canisters used as storage components during transportation act as launchers when placed in VLS launch tubes. Mk41 VLSs were integrated into the Gabya and Barbaros class frigates of the Turkish Navy during the RIM-162 ESSM modernization.
