Long Range Strike Capability to Greek Apaches

Despite the economic problems, Greece continues to invest in arms and defence spending.

Greece plans to modernize AH-64 Apache helicopters with the acquisition of surplus spare parts from the United Arab Emirates, which modernized its AH-64 Apache helicopters. Modernization of 19 helicopters is foreseen within the scope of the process, the total cost of which is thought to be 35 million USD. In this context, it is planned to replace the TADS/PNVS hardware of the platforms with Elbit product new systems. In addition, IHADSS (Integrated Helmet and Display Sighting System) in helicopters is also replaced by new equipment.

Spike NLOS (Non-Line of Sight) and Spike ER2 integration into helicopters planning with the third step, perhaps the most important modernization item that has been on the agenda of the Greek media. In this way, the platforms will be able to engage ground targets from 30 kilometres in long-range and 16 kilometres in the medium range. According to Greek sources, although the process was temporarily delayed due to the virus outbreak, Israeli technicians are expected to investigate the platforms in a short time. In addition to the AH-64 Apache, the Spike NLOS integration has also been brought to the S-70B-6 Aegean Hawk helicopters in the Hellenic Navy inventory.
