Intelligence aircraft, developed from business jets and fixed-wing light aircraft, offer cost-effective solutions to users.
The French defence procurement agency DGA announced the delivery of the first light intelligence aircraft on July 31. Within the scope of ALSR (Avions Légers de Surveillance et de Reconnaissance / Light Reconnaissance and Surveillance Aircraft) Program, Sabena and Thales were selected as the main contractors for the two ordered platforms in June 2016.
ALSR, which is a cost effective solution with its low logistics requirement, is based on Beechcraft King Air 350. The platforms that France plans to add to its inventory of eight by 2030. It is able to perform intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance missions. ALSR will be operated by the French Air Force.
14 meters long plane;has a wingspan of 17 meters. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PT6A-60A turboprop engines, the platform features advanced electronic, optical and electro-optic sensors.
