Australia, which phased out the Adelaide-class frigates that have reached end of their economic life, continues to commission new platforms.

As part of the program launched by the Royal Australian Navy received the third and last Hobart class destroyer. At the ceremony held in Adelaide, the ship transferred from Osborne Shipyard to the navy will serve with the name of HMAS Sydney (42).

The ship, which is officially scheduled to commission on May 20, has Aegis equipment. HMAS Sydney will perform qualification trials with the US Navy for six months after starting duty. Total costs of Hobart class platforms built under the 13-year AWD Program were reached 6 billion USD.
