Ethiopia, which is trying to improve the country's well-being and prosperity with new reforms and breakthroughs near the internal conflicts and civil wars, announced that a surprising decision.

Ethiopia, which lost its access to the sea after Eritrea gained independence in 1991 as a result of the clashes that lasted 30 years, announced that it had established a navy. The country's Defence Minister, Lema Megersa announced this step but didn't say anything about where the vessels will be based on. He drew attention to the importance of Djibouti in the region and Megersa said, “The superpowers and powerful nations of our world are rushing to establish military bases in Djibouti. This has advantages and disadvantages. Our only import and export port is in the area. It is important for us to ensure our security and monitor what everyone is doing in the region,”. There are different opinions about where the navy will be based. Although the importance of Djibouti was pointed out in the statements made about the Navy, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed made a historical visit to Eritrea in 2018, which gained its independence through the war.

There is no information yet about which platforms to will be used and potential vessels' seller for the new navy established by Ethiopia, which has no navy for nearly 28 years.
