Israel and Greece are building a new marine radar system in eastern Crete, according to a recent report in the Greek daily Kathimerini. The paper said the new surface radar will be able to track at long range, beyond the horizon, and both Israel and Greece will have access to its enhanced coverage. At the top is the Long Horizon radar, which will be built in eastern Crete and will provide the opportunity to watch all that is happening in the Eastern Mediterranean, both in Greece and Israel. Athens is particularly interested in this project, in which it participates with Jerusalem at a cost that is not insignificant, especially for the reduced defence budget of Greece.
