Diehl Defence presented the next‑generation air defence solution, the IRIS‑T SLS MK4, to experts at a special event held one day before the official opening of the ILA Berlin Air Show 2026, which is being closely followed by the global defence industry. Developed to meet Short Range Air Defence (SHORAD) requirements, the system integrates radar, a command‑and‑control (C2) unit, and a missile launcher with munitions all on a single tactical vehicle. This all‑in‑one architecture minimises logistics dependencies and allows the system to be deployed to different operational areas in a very short time.
High Automation, Minimal Crew Requirement, Maximum Speed
Standing out with its rapid reaction times, the fourth‑generation IRIS‑T SLS MK4 achieves full operational capability with fewer personnel thanks to its high level of automation. The system uses the original, unmodified IRIS‑T air‑to‑air missile as its primary effector – a proven asset on the battlefield. Keeping the existing missile architecture offers user armed forces a significant advantage in munitions commonality and ease of supply.
Modular Adaptability Against Hybrid Threats
Thanks to its platform‑independent, flexible architecture, the IRIS‑T SLS MK4 can be customised to different customer requirements. It also provides versatile solutions against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which are among the most dynamic threat elements on the modern battlefield. Furthermore, it is possible to integrate anti‑UAV munitions such as the CICADA eMissile and different weapon stations into the system. Diehl Defence engineers have stated that full operational “fire‑on‑the‑move” capability will be added to the system in the near future.
