April 11, 2020Intercept Trainings over Arctic
The temperature in the Arctic Region is increasing day by day. In addition to the Russian bombers that warmed the cold climate of the geography and the western aircraft that took off to intercept them, the Russians also started high-altitude trainings.
Aircraft assigned to the Russian Northern Fleet launched stratospheric altitude training on the Arctic. In the statement made by the command, 10 Su-24 (NATO Code: Fencer) and five MiG-31 (Foxhound) conducted day and night training flights in the region. In addition to high altitude interception tasks, ground attack training was also carried out against enemy naval surface targets in tactical training activities, which were reported to be carried out at an altitude of 17 thousand meters. The platforms carried out individual exercises as well as joint studies.
Russia is deploying the MiG-31 high-altitude interceptors in the region against possible enemy bomber raids. Su-24s, which constitute the main tactical ground attack force of the Russian Aerospace Forces, deployed within the Northern Fleet to be commissioned against attacks from the sea and land.
