Indigenous Solution for Humanitarian Missions

The Philippines has commissioned two indigenously built multi-mission offshore vessels (MMOVs) on 21 December which will boost the country's humanitarian assistance and fishery patrol capabilities. The vessels have been christened BRP Lapu-Lapu, and BRP Francisco Dagohoy respectively.

The construction of the vessels began in January 2016, and the vessels were subsequently launched in August. 50.5 m in overall length, the vessels are powered by two Mitsubishi S16R2-T2MPTK marine diesel engines driving two propellers, enabling the ships to reach a top speed of 18 kt, and a cruise speed of 15 kt.
