January 3, 2018US Plans Armed AC-208 Sales To Afghanistan
The US Air Force plans to supply seven more armed Cessna AC-208 Caravan aircraft to the Afghan National Army, adding to the country's 208 aircraft previously supplied between 2007-2016.
An acquisition notice posted by the Air Force late on 27 December invites comments on a plan to award the contract to Orbital ATK without a competition. Alternative options will also be evaluated however foreign companies will not be able to bid due to security requirements.
Orbital ATK advertises the AC-208 Eliminator equipped with 70mm guided rockets and AGM-114 Hellfire missiles. The aircraft will also feature sensors, target designators, data links and self-protection systems.
