New developments are on the agenda for the BrahMos supersonic anti-ship missile, developed with a joint subsidiary of India and Russia.
The munitions, which are planned to be developed to target Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft, will be equipped with passive sensors by 2024, it said. Moscow and New Delhi also plan to develop a hypersonic version of BrahMos.
Alexander Maksichev, one of the program's directors, said they plan two different stages for the hypersonic missile. According to Maksichev, by 2024-2025, work will be carried out to get the munitions to Mach 4-5. In 2026-2027, Brahmos will be moved to Mach 6-7 speed.
The munitions have variants used in ships, submarines and coastal defence batteries.
