Hunter Class Frigates Might Not Be in The Planned Size

A new report on Hunter-class frigates built for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has been launched.

Reports have surfaced that the new Hunter-class frigates being built by BAE Systems for the RAN is expected to be larger and heavier than initially planned. Under the contract signed in 2018, it was foreseen that frigates would have 8 thousand 800 tons of displacement.

In the said document, it was stated that the platforms have more than 10,000 tons displacement and the length of 150 meters determined in the agreement was exceeded.

ASC Shipbuilding, which works with Bae Systems, declined to comment on the report. The company said the ship's design was progressing in the normal process and that work was underway in accordance with Australia's needs.

RAN aims to add nine Hunter class frigates worth $US35 billion to its inventory under project SEA 5000.
