Hellenic Navy Improve Logistics Capability

Greece, which wants to increase its effectiveness in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, is expanding the steps taken in the navy area.

The Hellenic Navy continues to add ships in its inventory from different ways. In this context, another platform donated by Aikateri Laskaris Foundation to the Hellenic Naval Forces. HS Iraklis (A 472) commissioned with a ceremony held at the Salamis Naval Base as the logistic support vessel. Founded under the leadership of former President Panos Laskaridis, the foundation is known for purchasing and donating platforms that are put up for sale worldwide and in accordance with Hellenic Navy requirements.

HS Iraklis, acquired from Norway, was previously operated by civilian users to provide logistics support to offshore oil rigs. The displacement of the platform, which is 85 meters long, is 4,500 tons. There are four auxiliary propulsion systems, two of which are primarily on the ship and the ship thrusted by two shafts; driven by two 9,500 hp engines. HS Iraklis, whose maximum speed is 15 nautical miles per hour, can carry 2,600 tons payload on its open deck; and 4,000 tons of fuel or liquid payloads in its internal tanks.
