The IDEB 2026 exhibition in Bratislava hosted the world premiere of a platform that looks set to change the standards of the armoured vehicle world. It is built on the proven hull of the Kaplan MT. The CFL-120 Karpat combines a medium tank concept with 120mm firepower. As a result, it redefines expectations in its class. Moreover, FNSS’s engineering expertise in tracked armoured vehicles has been combined with the Czech-based CSG Group’s production infrastructure in Slovakia. The result is a new, hard-hitting solution aimed at international markets.
At an event organised in Slovakia, FNSS and CSG signed a cooperation agreement targeting global markets. There is also a particular focus on Europe. This partnership centres on the joint development and production of selected armoured platforms. The first concrete outcome of this collaboration, the CFL-120 Karpat, brings together FNSS’s design capabilities with a European-based production model. FNSS CEO and Board Member Selim Başbaş stated that this partnership is the result of a shared understanding of modern battlefield requirements. He also emphasised that FNSS’s technical know-how – particularly on the Kaplan medium tank platform – forms the backbone of the project.

Kaplan MT Infrastructure and Technical Features
The CFL-120 Karpat draws its core design philosophy from the Kaplan MT platform, which was developed by FNSS and is currently in service with the Indonesian Army. For this new configuration, the Leonardo-produced HITFACT MkII turret system and a 120mm main gun have been chosen. Examining the platform’s technical specifications: aside from the 120mm main gun, attention is drawn to the 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and the option to integrate a remote-controlled weapon station. Weighing approximately 34 tonnes, the vehicle achieves a top speed of 70 km/h and a range of 450 km. Additionally, features such as modular armour construction, CBRN protection, an automatic fire suppression system, thermal sighting systems, and the provision for an active protection system enhance the platform’s survivability.

Regional Production and Global Markets
Within the scope of the project, the aim is to make use of existing production infrastructure in Slovakia. There are also plans to facilitate technology transfer and develop the local supply chain. Shaped under FNSS’s technological leadership, the CFL-120 Karpat is being offered as a modern alternative not only for the European market. In addition, it is being offered for users in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
