The US Navy has christened its newest Freedom-class littoral combat ship (LCS), the future USS Indianapolis (LCS 17), during a ceremony at the Fincantieri Marinette Marine shipyard on 14 April. She will undergo additional outfitting and testing at Fincantieri Marinette Marine before her anticipated delivery next year. This will be the fourth US Navy ship to bear the Indianapolis name. The vessel is also the 17th LCS to enter service with the US Navy. The LCS-class consists of the Freedom-variant and Independence-variant, designed and built by two industry teams.
