Canada is lifting a freeze on weapons exports to Saudi Arabia and has renegotiated a much-criticized $14 billion contract to sell General Dynamics Corp armoured vehicles to Riyadh, Ottawa said.
The announcement marks a retreat by the Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who said in December 2018 he was looking for a way out of the deal.
The gross vehicle weight (GVW) of the vehicle is quoting 28,100 kg. The LAV-FSV’s powerpack comprises a Caterpillar C13 diesel developing 700 hp coupled to an Allison 2800 automatic transmission.
The hull of a new vehicle has a V type to provide a higher level of protection against mines and improvised explosive devices.
Crew protection is also provided by NBC detection/protection system, automatic fire suppression and multi-spectral smoke grenade launchers. EO/IR systems provide surveillance through 360° direct view optics.
The LAV-FSV is operated by a three-person crew comprising the commander, gunner and driver, also the vehicle can accommodate up to 4 troops. It is armed with the 3000 series turret from CMI Defence with 30mm cannon and 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.
