BAE Systems has signed a framework agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense covering a period of up to seven years. The agreement aims to increase annual APKWS production capacity to 35,000 kits, which provide precision-strike capabilities against various threats, including counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) threats.

The move aims to provide timely support for evolving operational requirements and accelerate the supply of critical munitions to the United States and its allies. While expanding APKWS production capacity, BAE Systems will continue negotiations for a multi-year procurement contract under the framework agreement.

Tom Arseneault, President and CEO of BAE Systems Inc., stated that APKWS delivers proven, reliable and cost-effective precision-strike capabilities at scale against evolving threats. Arseneault emphasised the need for continued investment in critical munitions to strengthen military readiness and meet operational requirements.

Versatile Engagement Capabilities

Developed by BAE Systems, APKWS laser guidance kits convert 2.75-inch unguided rockets into precision-guided munitions. The kits are used by the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps and are also supplied to allied nations. APKWS kits can be deployed across various platforms and used in air-to-ground, ground-to-ground, ground-to-air and air-to-air engagements. BAE Systems continues to invest in production infrastructure, material procurement and a skilled workforce in line with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Acquisition Transformation Strategy. These efforts are supported by the company’s supply chain and partners involved in the APKWS programme.

As it expands production capacity to meet future increases in demand, BAE Systems continues to work on enhancements to address emerging threats, mission-specific variants and new technologies. APKWS laser guidance kits are manufactured at the company’s facilities in Hudson, New Hampshire, and Austin, Texas.
