American Ship to Ukraine

The US has made a new offer to the Ukrainian Navy. The content of the proposal was stated as guided missile frigates.

Ukrainian Navy Commander Admiral Ihor Vorochenko confirmed that Ukraine received a new offer from the United States. The content of the offer was reported to be two of the Oliver Hazard Perry class guided missile frigates that the US Navy phased out between 2013 and 2015. Ukraine is examining the status of the vessels and the final decision will be made as a result of the studies conducted.

Turkey, procured eight Oliver Hazard Perry frigates from the US between 1997 to 2003 for active use. Even though other ship/ships were supplied after this date, they were considered as spare parts for the maintenance of the active platforms. Frigates are serving as Gabya Class in the Turkish Navy were modernized under the GENESIS (Ship Integrated Combat Management System) program, which was developed with local facilities and initiated by the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries. Following the agreement signed in 2009, the platforms gained the RIM-162 ESSM capability with the Mk13 vertical launch system.

Currently, a Krivak III class URS Hetman Sahaydachniy (U130) frigate serves as the main element in the Ukrainian Navy.
