September 17, 2020Agreement with Israel for F-35 Composites
Lockheed Martin signed with Elbit Systems for the F-35 Lightning II composites. The contract includes Elbit Systems providing composite material and assembly work for F-35 variants for four years. The Israeli-based firm is scheduled to deliver more than 1,400 parts to Lockheed Martin during the course of the study.
Lockheed Martin does not allow countries that purchase the F-35 to make systemic changes, but there was an exception for Israel. After Israeli modifications, the platform was called F-35 “Adir”. Elbit Systems, Rockwell Collins and Israel Aerospace Industries jointly conducted the work.
Elbit Systems is developing 22 different structural components, such as power amplifiers, for the F-35 program.
Israel has purchased a total of 50 F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin. Delivery of the aircraft will be completed by 2024.
